Portland Juice Co. 3-Day Cleanse Review
I’m about to get really really real with y’all. F’reals. I had a babeh 9 months ago, and I gained way more weight than I did with my first kiddo (35ish lbs). I’ve been struggling to get back into my pre-mama clothes, and it’s been bumming me out. I’ve been rockin’ spanx under of 24/7 yoga pants, all while shoveling massive amounts of vegan donuts and pizza down my pie hole… daily. GAH! My bod finally reached a crazy level of toxicity, and was like, “WTF, woman?!”
Enter: juice cleansing.
I started researching local juice cleansing companies to help me re-boot my system and jumpstart my metabolism and a healthier lifestyle. I came across Portland Juice Co., and found out they offered a 3-day (and 4-6 day) nutrient-packed, raw juice cleanse “that allows the body to take a break from processing food fibers and start healing.”
Their cleanse includes five fresh juices and one nut milk (approximately 1200 calories per day):
The Guru – beet, carrot, apple
The Dharma – celery, lemon, apple, parsley, spinach, kale
The Mantra – turmeric, orange, ginger cayenne, carrot
The Prana – ginger, cilantro, cucumber, collard greens, romaine, lemon
The Karma – coconut water, pineapple, spinach, kale
The Om – cashews, filtered water, dates, cinnamon
My experience:
Day 1 – Until about 3pm(ish) and 3 bottles in, I was like, “I got dis.” The juices are actually really tasty. When it was time to make food for my family though, I was salivating and ogling errbody’s food like a dog begging for scraps. And it wasn’t so much that I was hungry (because the juices actually satiate immediate hunger), I was just having WICKED cravings. I wanted deep-fried this, sugary thats, etc. Drank my nut milk in the evening and felt much more at peace with the cleanse (it’s appropriately named Om). Day 1 wasn’t too bad.
Day 2 – “Dear lawd, gimme a cupcake!” I seriously started obsessing about food – and was very vocal about it. I must have sounded like a whiney, hangry betch! I craved something/anything savory. I was getting tired of the constant sweetness of the juices. I caved and ate half an avocado with salt, pepper, and smoked paprika. It was deeeeee-lish!!!! I savored the sh*t of of that ish. It wasn’t a crazy cheat; it’s not like I ate 5 lbs. of cookies (although that sounded good, too). 😉 Day 2 was harder than day 1 but I was beginning to notice my body change, which was a big motivator to keep going!
Day 3 – Very similar to day 2… I had another half an avocado (and some plain mixed greens) in the middle of the day. Hubby made pizza for dinner, and I damn near lost my sh*t. It smelled like absolute heaven. My will power was strong, though. Weighed myself at the end of the day, and I had already lost 6(!!!) lbs.
Overall impression of the cleanse – I definitely lost some jigglies but I still have a long way to go. The juices taste amazing and fresh (wouldn’t mind extra ginger in some of the blends, though). I felt energized and satisfied (cravings aside). My fave juices were: The Guru, The Mantra & The Om. Portland Juice Co. is rad, and I will definitely be cleansing with them again in the future. I also love that they’re a woman-owned and operated company.
Have you tried a juice cleanse? How did it go?
